International GPA Calculator (iGPA)

What is the International GPA Calculator?

The International GPA Calculator (iGPA) is a free, professional-grade tool that converts grades from over 100 international education systems to the US 4.0 GPA scale. Built by Allen Long, Director of International Admission and experienced DSO/ARO, iGPA is designed specifically for international admissions professionals at universities and colleges who need consistent, reliable GPA conversions across their teams.

How Does International GPA Conversion Work?

International GPA conversion translates grades from foreign education systems into the US 4.0 scale used by American institutions. iGPA supports 180+ grading systems worldwide, including percentage-based scales (India, Nigeria), letter grades (UK, Canada), numeric scales (Germany, France), and classification systems (Australia, South Africa). The conversion methodology is independently developed using open-licensed data from UNESCO Institute for Statistics, World Bank Education Statistics, and publicly available academic research.

Who Uses iGPA?

iGPA serves international admissions professionals, enrollment managers, and credential evaluators at higher education institutions. It is particularly valuable for small admissions teams that process international applications with limited resources and need to maintain consistency across staff members and student workers.

How Accurate is iGPA Compared to WES or ECE?

iGPA uses conversion methodologies informed by publicly available educational standards and research on international grading systems. While referencing authoritative sources like AACRAO and NCAA for general guidance, iGPA does not reproduce proprietary conversion formulas. The tool is designed for preliminary transcript reviews and internal consistency, not to replace official credential evaluations from NACES-certified agencies when institutionally required.

About the Creator

Allen Long created iGPA from his experience as Director of International Admission, DSO, and ARO at a private liberal arts university. Processing approximately 2,000 international applications per cycle with a small team, he identified the need for a standardized, affordable GPA conversion tool that could serve as both a calculation engine and a training resource for new team members.

Data Sources and Methodology

iGPA's conversion algorithms are independently developed using open-licensed data sources: UNESCO Institute for Statistics, World Bank Education Statistics, and Wikipedia. The tool references but does not reproduce proprietary content from AACRAO, NCAA, WES, ECE, or other credential evaluation services.
